According to reports, the system is part of the Attica-Crete high-voltage DC interconnection system, with a total investment of up to 1 billion euros, which is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024.
Italian cable manufacturer Prussian was awarded the supply contract for the project in 2020 for a total of 270 millioni d'euros. This includes the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a €250 million high-voltage DC cable system. As well as a contract worth €20 million for the laying of submarine communication cables for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the system. The total length is 670 kilometers.
